Foreign Languages Department of Çankırı Karatekin University was founded by the decision dated 04.03.2009 and numbered 3 of the university senate. Our department comprises of the head of department, 2 co-heads of department, 5 English, 1 German lecturer and 1 secretary of department. In total, 2836 students receive education in first-year programs of daytime and evening education of all faculties and colleges in 2012-2013 spring term. Our department teaches Basic and Elective English lessons to our students in 6 faculties and 1 college and 3 vocational colleges including Faculty of Science, Engineering Faculty, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Economics and administrative sciences, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Forestry, Health College, Çankırı Vocational College, Kızılırmak Vocational College and Yapraklı Vocational College. Our students have two types of proficiency exams as an alternative to YDS. These consist of exemption and proficiency exams for the first-year students and proficiency exams for the post-graduate students in Institute of Science and Social Sciences. Our lecturers interoperate to create an effective language learning atmosphere for the purpose of giving academic support to the students in different faculties and colleges and gaining basic language ability. Our lecturers are aware of the necessity of self-assessment and development and 2 of them completed their post graduate and other 4 have continued their academic studies.

Our department is in a struggle for diversification of foreign language lessons in order to offer different language alternatives to our students in line with the current requirements. Accordingly, we are intent on enhancing and advancing.
